Landscaping for a Home on a Golf Course in Green Bay

Gold Award-Winning Outdoor Living Space With Ramada & Outdoor Kitchen

Homes on golf courses come with unique opportunities and challenges — from preserving views to managing drainage, privacy, and turf transitions. This Green Bay project highlights how Lowney’s designs and builds landscapes that complement both the home and the course. This type of project falls under our landscaping design and build services for homeowners across Green Bay and Northeast Wisconsin.

This Green Bay landscaping project began with a simple but honest frustration. “I was looking for a total transformation of my backyard. And for about a year, I was working with other landscapers, giving them ideas, and truly nobody was delivering what I was hoping for,” said Holly Demske, who is pictured and quoted in this article.

The setting — the golf course community Thornberry Estates in the Green Bay area of Oneida — deserved more than incremental upgrades. The existing space had narrow steps, aging retaining walls, shifting caps, and cramped patio areas that no longer matched how the homeowners lived or entertained.

Holly said her life then changed when “somebody finally recommended that I get in touch with Lowney’s, and I’m so happy that I did. Because truly everything that I was looking for that I really didn’t know that I wanted, it all came to life.”

Challenges of Landscaping a Golf Course Property

  • Maintaining open views to the course
  • Managing elevation and drainage near fairways
  • Creating privacy without blocking sightlines
  • Blending landscape design with surrounding turf

A True & Total Green Bay Landscaping Transformation

To deliver a complete transformation, our team removed outdated walls, patios, and plantings and regraded the site to rebuild it intentionally. Challenging elevation changes were redesigned with terraced outcropping walls and wet-cast concrete steps to create smooth, safe, and visually connected transitions between levels.

“So one of the challenges that I had was I have two different spaces and trying to identify how to link the basement to the upper patio and do it so obviously it was accessible, but also really played into the aesthetics. And Christine did a fantastic job of coming up with a design that I had yet to see from any other company. The overall layout is exactly what I was looking for.”

What was once disconnected now feels cohesive and natural.

Designed Around How They Entertain

The centerpiece of this golf course landscaping project is a custom ramada featuring a covered outdoor kitchen and fireplace. Masonry pillars support structural wood beams and a matching mantle. Under the tongue-and-groove ceiling, integrated lighting and an overhead heater extend the outdoor season well beyond summer.

“One of my favorite elements as part of the patio project is the kitchen that I have outside. Their team listened to what do I use this space for and what do we need to put into it so that I can entertain. And I certainly do entertain as a result of it.”

The outdoor kitchen includes stainless steel appliances and cabinetry, dual refrigerators, and custom raised concrete countertops — all designed specifically for hosting.

“I didn’t think that I needed a heater… but I sit out here from March all the way through November because the gas heater is absolutely amazing. It is perfect for watching football out here in the fall or just when you have the spring fever and it might be a little too chilly.”

This is Green Bay landscaping built for real Wisconsin weather.

Swim Spa Without Sacrificing the View of the Golf Course Landscaping

Originally considering a pool, the homeowners chose a swim spa integrated directly into the main patio. A masonry retaining wall tucks it neatly into the landscape without obstructing views of the adjacent golf course. A safety railing was incorporated for secure footing when the cover is closed.

Lower-level spaces were redesigned for privacy with decorative screen panels, coordinated masonry columns, and evergreen screening. Three-size blends of natural stone pavers in warm buff and tan hues replaced the original monotone surfaces, tying together the home’s exterior and the new landscape architecture.

An avid gardener, the homeowner requested open planting areas for annuals and perennials, along with low-voltage lighting to extend enjoyment into the evening hours.

A Process That Delivered — Start to Finish

“We went through a few different options and Joe and his design team had some awesome recommendations… they were there through the start and finish of it, picking out stone, picking out the fireplace, all of the small details. They made the process simple and fun. Joe and the entire team truly are a lot of fun to work with.”

And the experience didn’t stop when construction was complete.

“It’s easy to say a company gives good customer service to start because they want your business. But I’m more impressed with how they’ve serviced even after the work was completed. It was truly a joy to work with Joe and the entire team.”

The Result

What was once a dated and disconnected backyard is now a luxurious, fully integrated outdoor living environment overlooking one of Northeast Wisconsin’s premier golf courses.

Used from early spring through late fall. Designed intentionally. Built for entertaining. Recognized with a Gold Award for excellence by the Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association in the residential construction category, an extremely difficult award to achieve.

This is what thoughtful, design-build Green Bay landscaping looks like — not just beautiful, but transformative.
