The Valley of the Best

This newsletter was supposed to lead with a celebratory article about the fact that Lowney’s Landscaping won Post-Crescent Best of the Valley for landscapers for the third time in the past five years, and Best Tree Service for the sixth consecutive time. We’re also about to be named one of the Best Places to Work in all of North America in Lawn & Landscaping Magazine, again.

And then it became mostly irrelevant as The Valley proved why it is actually the best. Here’s a Thank You video dedicated to our friends and customers who have supported our crews and staff during this difficult time while proving why we all love it here. Please watch the video above.

Here is our tree service protocol: For truly serious situations involving imminent needs, call (920) 740-9790 and we’ll get back to you as fast as we can. For trees laying on houses and similar structures that are not imminently dangerous or troublesome, you may call, but please expect to be put on a schedule for an estimating visit in a couple weeks. For yard cleanup that doesn’t involve a house or structure, please visit our website and fill out a Contact Form here.

Ash Tree Owners: Injection Season Continues Through August

If you have ash trees on your property, there is still time to have them evaluated for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). This invasive insect has become common throughout Wisconsin, and many healthy ash trees can continue to thrive for years with the right treatment.

Our injection season typically continues through the end of August. As ash trees begin preparing for dormancy in September, they no longer move water and nutrients through the tree as actively. Because of that, they also don’t distribute the protective treatment as effectively, so we wait until the following growing season to resume injections.

If you’re not sure whether your ash trees are good candidates for treatment, we’re happy to help. We offer free inspections and will give you an honest assessment of your trees. If treatment makes sense, we’ll explain your options. If a tree is too far gone to benefit, we’ll tell you that too. That’s how we’ve developed such a high percentage of success in our EAB program. Our goal is simply to help you make the best decision for your property.

Summer Watering Tips

Summer heat can be hard on lawns, trees, shrubs, and perennial gardens. One important reminder: unless you’ve made separate arrangements with us, watering is not included in most maintenance or installation contracts. Especially after a new landscape is installed, proper watering is one of the biggest factors in helping your investment thrive.

For new trees, shrubs, and perennials, water slowly and deeply at the base of the plant. A good, thorough soaking is much more effective than frequent light sprinkling. Lawns also benefit from deeper watering rather than a quick daily spray. If you have an irrigation system, early morning is generally the best time to water because less moisture is lost to evaporation.

If your lawn turns brown during a dry stretch, don’t give up on it. Many lawns go dormant to protect themselves and will green up again with consistent watering and a little patience.

If you’re unsure how much to water your new landscape, just ask. We’d much rather answer a few questions today than help replace stressed plants later. We’re always happy to offer guidance.

Oshkosh Waterfront Project

Here’s a short video updating our Oshkosh waterfront project. Almost done!

Ready for Football Party Season? Start Planning Now.

Cooler evenings, colorful leaves, and football on the big screen make fall one of the best times to enjoy an outdoor living space. This Thornberry Creek project shows what is possible: a covered gathering area with comfortable seating, a fireplace, an outdoor TV, and plenty of room for guests to settle in for the game.

Spaces like this take thoughtful design, material selections, scheduling and construction time. Starting the conversation now gives our designers and crews the best opportunity to create a finished space that is ready when football season, and prime outdoor entertaining weather, arrives.

Whether you are imagining a covered patio, outdoor kitchen, fireplace, television area or a complete backyard transformation, now is the time to get your project on the schedule. Then, when kickoff comes, all that is left to do is invite the guests and enjoy the game.
